Overview and Travel Assistance

Cleveland is a vibrant midwestern city, located in the northeast part of Ohio on the southern shore of Lake Erie. Local attractions include: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; Playhouse Square performing arts center; The Cleveland Museum of Art; Cleveland Botanical Garden; and the Cleveland Clinic itself. Major sports teams, with stadiums just a few miles from the Clinic, are the Browns (football), Cavaliers (basketball), and Guardians (baseball). 


Visitors to Cleveland should expect seasonal weather. Winters are cold, cloudy, and often snowy, with average temperatures in the 30s. Summer temperatures regularly reach into the 80s, while Spring and Fall are more temperate. Don’t forget to check the weather a few days before you visit.

General tips

  • Use points from credit cards or other loyalty programs to cover some or all of your travel costs.
  • Sign up for loyalty programs with credit cards, airlines, and hotels in order to earn points for your travel. This is particularly useful if you know you will be visiting your COE multiple times and can continue to accrue those points.
  • Considering joining AAA. Members receive excellent discounts, especially at hotels.
  • Cleveland Clinic does provide travel assistance for patients and can help with parking, lodging, and transportation.

Lori Fund 


The HCMA Lori Fund will provide micro travel grants to HCM patients traveling to an HCMA-recognized Center of Excellence for care or HCM patients traveling to a facility for heart transplant care. Awards up to $600.00 are available per calendar year.

The Cleveland, OH station at 200 Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, Cleveland, OH 44114, is served by two train routes, the Capitol Limited route, and the Lake Shore Limited route via Amtrak.

  • Monday–Friday, 4:45 am–10:00 pm

Walking

  • The Cleveland Visitor’s Center says “According to Walk Score, a popular internet site for ranking pedestrian-friendly cities, Downtown Cleveland is considered a 'walker’s paradise.'" Most attractions in Downtown Cleveland can be reached within a 20-minute walk. Downtown Cleveland is approximately 4 miles from the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus.

There are plenty of lodging options in Cleveland, OH. Some are clustered around the Cleveland Clinic, while many others are closer to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the sporting arenas.
