AdventHealth Orlando
Orlando, Florida is the seat of Orange County in Central Florida. It is just about exactly halfway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. This tourist-friendly city is most well-known for its 100+ theme parks and attractions. Walt Disney’s announcement in the mid-1960s that his second Magic Kingdom would be in this swampy, lake-filled area of the Sunshine State drew residents and tourists alike, contributing to the development of more than 30 neighborhoods and communities. The first local theme park was actually Gatorland, which opened in 1949, but Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, and others are the modern focus of locals and travelers. International Drive and Universal Boulevard, off of the busy I-4, make up the central district for Orlando visitors, but there is a traditional downtown Orlando for locals, which is separate from the theme parks. University of Central Florida makes its home there, and hometown 90s boy band The Backstreet Boys took their name from downtown Orlando’s Backstreet Market.
The weather in Orlando is very hot and humid in the summers, with frequent thunderstorms and a risk of hurricanes. Winter, Fall, and Spring are still warm but typically have much less precipitation. The temperature rarely drops below freezing, though it may do so a few times each Winter. Don’t forget to
check the weather a few days before you visit.
