| Reporting Sudden Deaths This is an area reserved for our readers, members and friends to share stories of sudden death. We are seeking to assist the research community in gaining a better understanding of the true number of sudden deaths and as much detailed information about the person and activities they were involved with prior to the death. We ask you to provide name, date of death, age, location, a brief discription of what the person was doing prior to the SD and any family history you may know. These deaths need not be related to you, please include news clippings from your local papers as well as family situations. Note: This is not a discussion board. Any discussion of the events noted here should be placed in an appropriate area. |

All Rights Reserved The State (Columbia, SC) January 29, 2005 Saturday FINAL EDITION SECTION: C; Pg. 1 LENGTH: 215 words HEADLINE: 12/21/02 BODY: Sudden Deaths in the Midlands since 2002: Camden basketball player Marcus Warren, 16, collapses during a basketball game at Hilton Head High School. He is pronounced dead an hour later at Hilton Head Medical Center. His death is attributed to an arterial tear. 4/30/03 Dutch Fork basketball player Vic Sims, 17, collapses during a pickup game at Dreher High School. His death is attributed to Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. 5/15/03 Columbia student Brandon Butler, 15, collapses during a junior ROTC exercise. Conscious when taken by ambulance to Lexington Medical Center, he dies of apparent cardiac arrest one hour after his arrival. His death also is attributed to HCM. 9/7/03 A.C. Flora basketball player Lee Cannon, 17, collapses during a pickup game at Trenholm Park in Forest Acres. He is pronounced dead that night at Providence Memorial Hospital. The cause of death is attributed to an irregular heartbeat caused by a coronary artery that went through the heart muscle instead of around it. 8/4/04 Lower Richland football player Darryl Cornish, 15, collapses following a late-afternoon practice. Diagnosed with heat stroke, he is pronounced dead two days later. An autopsy reveals Cornish had an enlarged heart, which fatally aggravated the heat stroke's symptoms. LOAD-DATE: January 29, 2005
