Well. Its been two of the wackiest years of my life (and I never want to repeat them). I've been really feeling stressed and poorly lately & I don't think my current med regime is right so I'm making the call & going back to Mayo for my first visit since my myectomy in 08.
What kind of tests did any of you have for your first big "B2COE" check up? (thats "back to center of excellence' for the non-texting folk).

Marc,
I go to Mayo yearly for my check up (though I have not had a myectomy) and they do the same tests......echo, EKG, blood draw, chest x-ray, I have my ICD checked- not everyone does that though, exercise stress test (though Dr. Ommen's not made me do this the last two years since nothing has changed with my other tests), appointment with Dr. Ommen. I had an MRI my first visit there, but since I have an ICD, that is not something I have anymore. Good luck! I love going there, which probably makes me somewhat crazy. Kaye |

Marc,
Mine consisted of an EKG, Echo and a Stress Echo. Stress really messes things up. They'll get you back to right side up, so that you can go back to your old avatar. BTW, to coin a phrase.............don't forget to take a rubber duckie. Linda

Last time I had a chest x-ray, ekg, echo, and stress echo. I just got the schedule for this year's visit and it has blood work, x-ray, ekg, echo, and setting me up with a Holter monitor on it.

Well, got the appointment & I get to travel on my B-day. Tentatively booking three days. One to fly in, two for tests & a visit with the Good Doctor Ommen, and three just in case I need additional tests (she mentioned stress test sometime are scheduled the next day) and fly out that afternoon. I forgot just how pleasant they are to work with.

Your heart likes to celebrate your birthday, eh? Well, just a bit of advice that I learned from Gordon. Take an extra change of clothes. Glad I did, my 3 day adventure turned into 7.

Well, I'm never going to try the jet-set bit again -- what I tried to do last time was to fly in one day, and the next day have my afternoon appointment and fly home in the evening. "Why would I need more time than that?"
This time I've set a morning appointment, and am going to make a plane reservation for evening the day after. That way -- unless I have real drama like LindaSo did -- I'll go home when I expect to. Oddly, this is turning into a partial vacation trip for me. My wife wants to come (I think she doesn't want me to go alone after my drama last time), and my sister and brother-in-law are driving down from Detroit to Cleveland. Who knew an echo could provide so much entertainment? Gordon

I have gone back twice for checkups since my myectomy 4 years ago. Each time, it has been pretty much the same as my pre-surgical testing. I have had EKG, echo, chest x-ray and then, after meeting with Dr. O, he decides if you need to have a stress test or not. They usually schedule that the 2nd day. The first year I had the stress test because I was thinking of enabling the rate response on my pacemaker if my exercise HR response was flat (which it was) so we went ahead and made the changes.
The second time we had decided to change my meds, and he said that no matter what the results were he would recommend the same changes, so we decided to forego the stress test since there didn't seem to be any huge reason to have the test...I figured why spend the money if I didn't have to. I also had been worried about my poor showing on the stress test the last time, so there seemed to be no need to worry myself with the results if it wasn't necessary.
