Re: Septal Myectomy Scheduled at Mayo
Doodle - Welcome. I was going to move your post to our introductory thread "hello, my name is. . " but thought it might be easier for you to find a response here. Welcome!I can't speak for your set up, but I know I was a candidate for surgery before I made my appointment. So when I called the HCM clinic to make my initial appointment, I also booked my surgery (I knew both my doctor and surgeon from prior HCMA conferences). As they explained, should I NOT need surgery they can cancel it. I was traveling from CA so my testing dates were monday & tuesday, surgery was wed. I was released on Sunday and spent monday at the hotel across the street and flew out Tuesday. Yours is a long drive. But if you can recline on the drive (padded shoulder belt), make hourly stops to walk a bit, be able to take a couple of days to travel and get a good night's sleep, then you should be OK. Please know that sleeping after surgery is best in a recliner or propped up with a wedge pillow for the first week or two.
