I don't know that there's any evidence that HCM *causes* high blood pressure; people with HCM get hypertension just like anyone else. (Side comment: of course, if you're obstructed, and you are, HCM certainly causes high pressure *inside* the heart. But the measures you're referring to aren't those - they're in your upper arm.) Beta blockers can help with both, but as you noted, don't bank on a huge reduction in blood pressure from your metoprolol.
But even if HCM isn't the cause of your hypertension, they do need to be treated simultaneously. I'm glad you're off the lisinopril, since that would tend to reduce your blood pressure but increase your gradient.
