Wow I had an interesting visit with my specialist this week. I knew I had heard my mom's doctors saying she had an enlarged heart. Since I never could get her to tell me what she hsd (SHE HAD NO CLUE  ) I finally got her to give me the report from her last echo to take with me for my check up. Guess what her septum is normal. This means that I am the ONLY one in my family to have this. I always knew that was the oddball :D . Are there alot of others out there who are the first ones in their family to find this?

I would also like to report that I had a fetal echo today (at 29 weeks) and the little man's heart looks good. He looks like a healthy little guy and already weighs 3.3 pounds. This pregnancy has been so easy and pretty much symptom free :D :D :D :D :D :D I am so happy I just had to share!

Gayle,

I am not 100% sure that mom does not have HCM, at least some form of HCM. In some people with HCM the heart converts to a dilated form of cardiomyopathy, thus causeing an enlargement of the heart. What are her wall measurements? and what is her ejection fraction?

GREAT NEWS on the baby -- cant wait to see pictures! Stay healthy and take care of that wonderful family!

Lisa is, of course, correct but I also wanted to mention that sometimes the septum isn't very thick anyway -rare, but it happens. HCM is a disease of the entire heart, not just the septum.

I would take a look at the whole echo report --all walls, etc. and all that Lisa suggested.

Sorry to burst your bubble, as it were, but it is much more likely that she has it and they just are reading it right.

Congrats on that little boy! I know you're beside yourself waiting for him to arrive. I do hope that your mom doesn't have HCM. I'm glad that she's doing well, whether she has it or not. :)
