Hello to the “Hang Out” crew

I’m Jake, you can read my little hello in the Newbie Hello Section (http://forum.4hcm.org/viewtopic.php?t=4466)

Anyways, so what’s everyone hobbies? Stress relievers?

I know a lot of us used to be sport active and what not. With most doctor orders we’re not suppose to do that. No basketball, no football, no pretending to be superman and lifting the couch over your head, whatever the case may be we’re not supposed to do anything real physical. Myself I used to be a gymaholic and spent almost 3 hours a day there. The gym was my stress reliever and hobby. But when HCM reared its ugly head into my life it kind of changed things.

To fight HCM in the mental ways I choose a musical route and learned the guitar. Whenever I play it takes my mind completely off everything going on inside my head and body. It’s the best stress reliever for me. Something else that keeps my mind from thinking about HCM is playing computer games. Online games are my favorite. Anyone ever played Americas Army or some role-playing games like Everquest? There’s got to be one or two out there. Yes I can admit it; I’m a computer nerd but a cool computer nerd lol.

Any drummers, other guitar players or online gamers out there?

Take care and hope to see post from some peeps, -Jake-

I know what you mean about having to seem like giving up everything. I would kill to be able to play a good game of basketball again. Through out highschool I was great at it. I could beat a lot of the boys. When I played I always wore basketball shorts, t-shirt, and a baseball cap so they thought I was a boy. That way when I kicked their butt I wouldn't get the excuse I was being easy on you because you were a girl.

I also did four years of ROTC. Some of the best years of my life. I was a Lieutenant Commander and Administrative officer. I sure miss doing the armed drill routines and color guard. There is nothing like being able to hold our nation's flag and listen to the Star Spangled Banner during a Friday night football game. I had it all planned out they were going to pay for medical school I'd be in the navy doing what I was born to do. Until, this wonderful HCM decided to change all of that for me.

As far as hobbies go I write a lot of poetry and when I'm up to it I cycle. It is a great low impact work out and I find I can do that much easier than walking. I'm also a big geek I love computers. But due to work full time and school I don't get a lot of time to play games. I do play the Sims from time to time. My other hobby is that I'm a volunteer EMT. What a rewarding job. I only wish I could do it full time. I'd be very happy with that.

Well this is long enough,

Mary S.
