Two questions Please

Hi Midge and everyone else,
I have been doing a lot of thinking and wondered some things while I wait for transplant. If there ever is a need when I get my transplant or if anything happens to me and I need blood.........well I am Blood type B so would the blood I receive have to be Blood type B. Some of my family and friends have asked me that and I didn't know the answer.
Also I wondered if it was not possible to ever get a tattoo after transplant. No I am not a rebellious person lol. I always wanted an angel looking over my shoulder and just wondered. Thanks everyone. God bless you all.

I believe you cannot get a tatoo after transplant. You can swim in a lake though if you shower afterwards. I just asked that last week as I love the water and asked why. My cardiologists said go for it just shower right after. The blood issue I do believe you have to match type. Unless you only need platelets. Best to check with your Dr. I did receive blood after my transplant. Take care.

Kim, are you B+ or B-? If you're B+ you can accept B+, B-, O+, or O- blood. If you're B- you can only accept B- or O-. O is a universal donor, anyone can accept it. You just can't have any A blood mixed in there.

fyi, I was also told by the tranplant center folks at UCLA that the transplant surgery does not require much blood. I was surprised by that but have no reason to doubt them about it.

Hey Kim I"m O+ one of the universal donors. Man they are always calling wanting my blood. But so do my docs so they get first shot. Anhow, if you need an extra pint. I'll help ya out :wink:

Also, AB is considered the universal reciever. Aren't they lucky.

I'm O- myself. I try to donate when I can because they always reach for my type when they have an emergency.
