Is non obstructed hcm easier to treat?

I always have this in the back of my mind. What is the difference in prognoses whether you have non obstructive or obstructive hcm.

Hi Angela,

Obstructive HCM can be treated in various forms of treatment if certain conditions are present and the symptoms and quality of life is compromised to the point of intolerance or detriment to life. Example surgery or ablation if medication management fails

Non- obstructed HCM has limitations to treatment. If the individual has severe symptoms and their condition has advanced/deteriorated without benefit from medication, they may be listed for transplant. (There are conditions that must be present to be listed.)

Prognosis in and of itself is imposssible to predict as each case is very different.

Positive prognosis is acceptable and expected with successfull interventions whether they be medication or procedure oriented.

Negative prognosis would or could result from many factors, to name a few: a poor out come of surgical intervention , or ablation; or complications to the procedures, advancement of the disease process inpite of an intervention, no intervention (when one was needed and recommended),poor compliance on the part of the individual to follow guidelines and recommendations from their doctors, progression of heart failure symptoms without treatment and management,or even with treatment and management, multi systems failure, etc, etc , there are many variables.

Most individuals with HCM in general live a normal life expectancy. Yes there are exceptions but as you can see we for the majority are all here and have been sticking around and plan to for a good many years.
