I am looking at Tufts and also Brigham's/Harvard (do they take men?). Since I live close enough which one is more appropriate? Any recommendations?

I know that Tufts, NEMC, has a really good program. I'm not sure about Brigham's and Women's. (I have a hard time remembering all the facilities.) If you would like more detailed information on both centers, please call the HCMA office at 973-983-7429 and they will be happy to help you choose a center that's right for you. Welcome to the HCMA. :)

Hi Ron,

Welcome to the HCMA.

There are a pocket of us in the Massachusetts / Boston area. I believe the majority go to TUFTs NEMC. There is actually a clinic for HCM there that started up in 2002. If you are familiar with some of the experts in HCM , you will have heard of DR. Barry Maron. His son Marty is one of the cardiologists at this specialty clinic in Boston. I started out at BRIGHAM AND WOMENS, had my diagnosis, confirmed in 2000 and was implanted with an AICD, in 2001 there. Moved on to NEMC because there was nothing more they felt they could do for my particular case in 2003. Was seen and evaluated very thoroughly at NEMC in 2003 and had a septal myectomy in 2003. I am very pleased with the care I continue to recieve there. There are some specialists also at B&W.

A call to Lisa Salberg at 973-983-7492 can help you get headed in the best direction for you.

I would write more but not feeling well today, others will respond to you also with more info.

Keep us posted and ask away .

Pam

I see Dr. Maron & Udelson at Tufts NEMC....I was referred to them by a former local cardiologist...they are terrific...I know I am in excellent care with them...we are very lucky to have great doctors nearby
