The HCMA was invited to participate in a Kids health and safety fair yesterday in Lyndhurst NJ. Volunteers from Hackensack Medical Center and a local Ped cardiologist Dr. Scott Alenick were on hand to provide free ECG's and follow up echos to any child with any abnormal readings or significant family histories of heart disease.
This was a rather small event and due to the lovely weather of Ivan - turn out was 1/2 of what it was last year.
HOWEVER!!! We screened 50 kids with ECG's and 10 by echo - 1 child has been found to have an atrial septal defect and a few others should be followed up for potential issues. These were younger kids then we normally see at screenings the average age was 7 years.
My sincere thanks to all who assisted in the event!! Kelly and I had a great time and were happy to be part of such a wonderful event!
