Since I have spina bifida, with a tethered spinal cord, all my life my legs have been weak and my right leg is twisted. I've had to use crutches many times, and I could never manage them. I guess the pressure on my chest was too much with an obstructed heart, which was not diagnosed.

I always started to have blackouts, and could only mange with a walker. The Doctors laughed at me, and said I was neurotic, when I said I couldn't handle crutches.

Have any of you had similiar experiences?

My husband hasn't had to use crutches so I don't know if he'd have the same problem or not. I hope someone can help you with this question.

Yes Ma’am,
There is a simple solution. It is a newer verity of crutches. I’m relatively sure you’ve seen them. Basically it is an aluminum pole from the ground to the handle, which sticks out at a right angle to the pole. The pole is then bent a bit and continues about another foot to a clamp which goes around your forearm. They are remarkably maneuverable, give the support you require, and don’t go anywhere near your armpits.
