Come visit here – We hit 109 over the week-end, and have been over a hundred a few times this year already. We often break into the 120’s during the summer. If you park your car outside, the inside temperature exceeds the 150’s and we often have pets, and last year two children, die in their cars. You know those metal tabs on the seatbelts? Well, if they are hit by the sun and you touch them, you will be burned. Life in the desert is - - fun – especially in the air conditioned casinos.

Hi, to all you heat sufferers out there,

I just wanted to report that we are having upper 90's all this week, but that the dire warnings of endless heat starting in April were wrong!!! :lol: We have had really very nice weather and the sky has even been blue most of the time, in spite of the fact that I read that we had had ten days of severe pollution by the first of June this year, which was more than last year. We have seen stars for the first time since we came here and even saw enough of them to see the Big Dipper a few days ago. That is big news for us from Beijing where the sky and the buildings are grey and much of the time the sun looks like a ball and the moon appears as a faint glow through the pollution.

Just thought I'd share the good news even as the heat builds for the day!

Well it got to 95 here in Norfolk today and no windto speak of i looked at my rose bushes and had to give them water they looked like hey were going to hit the ground hope tomorrow is better cause i'm going to have to walk in it tomorrow i have a doctors appt tomorrow and usually there is alot of walking just to get into the building, everyone stay cool

All I can say is that as the years go on, I hate the heat and humidity more and more. My father retired to Florida some years ago. He had HCM. I don't know how he could stand the heat. After he passed away, my sister and I had to fly down there....it was July and just walking to the car made it unbearable. OH, well, I'm an "autumn" person myself....love, love the autumn in New England

Here in Cincinnati IT's been getting into the high 80's. It's the humidity thats the killer and the pollen count. It makes it tough to get out and get my walks in. My sister-in-law takes me to The Home Depot to walk around. The trouble with that is I always find something I want to buy. Stay cool everybody...

yet, here in GA, it has been in the low 80's. Everyone thinks its
"hotlanta", but in reality we dont really go above 90 much, even
in the summer. Also, EVERYWHERE is air conditioned. When I lived
in NH, I remember that having central air was an option. here in GA
central air is in every home, but basements are optional ...

All of that heat and humidity is why I left the south for L.A. The weather here is almost always great! When I go home to visit, I always have a lot of trouble with the weather and esp. the humidity.

I really don't mind the heat..it's the humidity that gets to me. Before I started working full time, I would go on our dock and lie in the sun and soak up some rays. I was always careful and used sunscreen. I mind the winter when the winds are blowing really hard. BTW I am a Spring and Fall person myself.
I have A/C everywhere!! Central air in our house, air in my car and air in my office.

I know what you mean about the heat, living here in Kansas it is not only gets hot but the humidity really gets to me. The hard part about that is my job requires me to be looking at turf problems on homelawns, sportsfields or golf courses, its a good thing the truck has AC.

I'm so bad in the heat and humidity that if I'm outside for a long period of time, I have to have my "Misty Mate" with me...I bought it a few years ago from Home Shopping Network and it's great! It's a portable bottle with a cover and a thin small hose with a tiny spiggot that sprays a fine cool mist...oooohhhh, refreshing!!!

It only hit 91 today – rather cool – and at the moment it is down to 87. But here’s the kicker – the humidity stand at only 13%. As the heat rises the humidity drops - - but then so does anybody silly enough to go out in the heat of the day. We shop mornings and evenings.

I keep thinking of that song I hope at least some of you know, “Mad Dogs and Englishmen Go Out In The Noonday Sun.”

Stay dry, exercise in the malls (some here open an hour before any of the stores), and cool it.

I've been dealing with this 90 degree weather since March! I was outside a hour and a half working on my car and got burnt on my neck and arms. Just glad I'm not working for the Rat this summer. It would probably kill me!

If I want to exercise I have to get up around 7:00 otherwise it is impossible. Guess that is life down here in Florida! Maybe I should be a snowbird. The winter is really tough on me. If I shiver my ICD rubs something and it hurts!

I know the Heat is tough to deal with some days- But you Guys are soooooooooooo Lucky to be WARM! I live in a suburb of Detroit, Mi & I just turned on the HEAT in the House! It's in the low 60's & raining for the second day. It's so darn gloomy & damp. The beginning of June, we had 40 Days of rain - in a Row! Noah was actually souting for applicants (a new Reality TV show?) I would trade with you to have Hot & Sunny!

What you need is a vacation in Vegas. It will dry you out, cheer you up, and put roses back in your cheeks.

Actually, if you brought all that rain along so it would snow in the Colorado Rockies we would be most appreciative. We are having the worst drought in recorded history. Lake Mead is down over eighty feet and they are offering a dollar a square foot to take out grass lawns and go to desert landscaping. It would take over three years of exceptional snowfall in the mountains that feed the Colorado River just to bring the water level back to normal. We drive to the lake on occasion and it has a giant bathtub ring,

Even though the hotels ask if the patrons wouldn’t mind if they don’t change the sheets every night to save on the wash water, in the hotels the water shortage is barely noticeable. Come on down and have a ball – and don’t forget to contact me.

I know alot of us have problems with the heat but how normal is it to have severe heat issues. I have always been more sensitive to the heat, but now I feel really ill even if I am warm. I sleep with a fan blowing directly on me, even throughout winter(Canadian winter!!) ;)
It drives hubby crazy, but I get overheated really easily. I just wonder how much is heart related, I always assumed it was. Today was nearly unbareable and it was only in the high 70's. This can't be normal even for HCM. Any ideas??

Just talked with my hubby in Sault Ste. Marie. He said our apple tree is finally getting its blossoms! It will either be a very short season; or, I'm to have red-colored (apple) snowballs this winter. Being an HCM'er, I appreciate it being cool enough to have to turn on the furnace instead of frying in the heat.

I do agree, however, that some of this rain could fall on the dessert before reaching the Ohio Valley.

Is it the heat that you mind or the humidity? I am fine when we get nice warm days, but with high humidity I have problems breathing, sluggish and trouble walking. Here in Minnesota we rarely get days without humidity in the Summer Spring and Fall so I basically live in A/C. I have central air at home, air in my car and in my office. I do like to go outside and get fresh air but not for long.

Hi, its just the heat that bothers me(worse if humid). I feel like this all year long, but summer is the worst. I already have my A/C on. I am wondering if there may not be something more going on with me than HCM. I have had several tests done though and all is well.

My MIL goes to Arizona for the winter, and I always joke that I am going to start going to Alaska for the summer. :) I can't stand the hot sun shining on me.

I live right on the Minnesota border, my dad(and family) live in International falls. Where in Minnesota are you?

There are people that mind the heat more than the cold. I mind the gusty winds. It seems as though I have a problem with my breathing when wind hits me in the face. My mom use to tell me that I never liked water on my face (she use to wash my hair when I was in the bath tub and the water would run down my face) I would gasp for air. HCM related? Who knows? I am beginning to question things that bother me. I'm not going to worry, heck, we all have enough problems, no need to drum up more concerns. It's the unknown.
I have lived in Minnesota for 3 1/2 yrs. I live near Mankato, in a little town called Waterville. In order to get to the cities, we must drive approximately 1 3/4 hours. Prior to moving here, I lived in Pennsylvania. I do miss the mountains. Last week I went to PA because my daughter had emergency surgery. I enjoyed every minute :D

Hey, I am not sure where that is, but it take us 5-6 hours to get to Minneapolis- actually it takes us atleast 4 hours to get to any major city from where we are in the middle of nowhere. Makes seeing the cardiologist an overnight trip. :(
I don't mind the winter, in fact I like winter because I hate the summer sooo much. Even with the A/C, it felt hot in our house today. Most people I know love summer. I guess I am the oddball.;)

You all need a trip to Seattle! We call 75 a hot day and 80 sweltering. As long as you don't mind the low clouds when it is not exactly raining, but everything is wet, you'll be fine. I actually love that kind of weather when it is warm (that's Seattle talk for anything above 50), but I hate it when its cold (that's Seattle talk for anything below 45). Marv

:wink: here in Franklin, Ohio it has been very nice about 83 degree's and sunny. It seem's to be cooler than it is normaly, all though I'm sure that I just cursed myself. I would rather be in the heat than in the cold, I hate :evil: the winter and snow (when it comes) and someday I'm moving out of ohio to a state that is always on the warm side.

Come on down to SC. High today will be 88 (though that is unseasonably cool) The good news is it typically only snows once in the winter and depending on the year you may be wearing shorts in December :D The bad news is you would have to drive to NC for an HCM specialist. Other than that I LOVE my state. I am definately a warm weather girl :big_floa: . My hat is off to all you guys who make it through harsh winters. It falls below 50 and I start shivering.

Well Folks,
Here it is – at 9:00 o’clock in the morning – the temperature is 92 degrees, and the humidity is 15%. Every day this week they have been reporting temperatures in the low 100’s, but they say it will go back up to normal by the end of the week-end.

We hired a gardening crew to put in our back-yard and redo the front – xeriscape (ie: rocks and plants) with a dribbler system so we don’t waste water spraying it into the air. Anyhow, I learned just how intolerant I was of the heat, as I would periodically bring them glasses of ice and cans of coke, and a couple of times I also had to go out to tell them where to place the various plants and bushes.

The first time I went out I was OK for a little over five minutes, and the last time I went out I was in trouble in about two minutes. The progression of problems were; almost immediately I was SOB. Then my chest tightened up and my legs got rubbery, then I got a nasty head-ache and pain in my heart. The final touch was stomach cramps. All this in a matter of a few minutes. I never pushed it beyond that but went into the A/C house, into a lounge chair, under a fan. We keep the house at 78 degrees. Any warmer and I start to perspire, while my wife wears flannel PJ’s and sleeps under a quilt. I did notice that each time I went out it took longer to recover, and I was still pretty wiped out the next day. Any of you go through that sequence of symptoms with the heat?

At any rate, it is now officially summer, and in about four months the temperature will start to moderate again. Then we will have another eight months of nice weather. We moved here from the San Fernando Valley where the summer temperatures are about 10 degrees cooler and the winter temperatures are about 10 degrees warmer. The SFV used to be semi-desert, but with all the lawns, trees and swimming pools the humidity there is now in the 50% range.

I wish.. I used to. I moved from the coast to Columbia (about 100 miles inland) 5 years ago for my job. At least we have a lake up here :) . The coastal area's of SC are great and you cant beat that ocean breeze. I just spent a week down there on vacation. My husbands family lives down there and we visit whenever we can :wink: . It is awesome.
