I get my ICD implant on monday...scared out of my mind. as of now i have summoned my boyfriend to stay at home with me and watch chick flicks and help me study for finals..hah..

but anywho what i really wanted to ask...

How long should you wait after an implant to go swimming? well not even swimming, just get in the water at least. the nurse i talked to seemed iffy about it for sanitation reasons...she didnt want the wound to get infected.

so what about pool water? how long do i have to be out of water? i live in water...thats one of the things im worried about after getting this thing...its finally summer and i wont be able to swim til august!?!?

anybody have any experiences in that???

Janelle - I think I was swimming within a month or so after my implant. You do have to wait until the wound heals, but it wasn't that long. Ask your doctor and see what he or she thinks.

Its also a good idea to always swim with someone else just in case....if your defib went off and you passed out, you would want someone there to fish you out.

Heyy Janelle,
hope everything is going well for you as you continue your recovery. If you had it last monday already its been a week and you should be able to start taking a normal shower and stuff and swim as soon as the doctor says the wound has healed well enough. Anyway, im about 16 days removed from my implantation, and I'm basically back to normal, sans lifting with my left hand. Going to school should be fine, but finding the right niche was hard for me at times in the middle of lectures. Anyway, hope you are recovering fine, and hope you'll be able to hit the water soon. Looking forward to hear that you are doing ok,if you have any questions feel free,
