well, I ended up in the hospital again yesterday..was at work when I started to feel funky (almost faint). My boss (who is a nurse) took my pulse and it was 40. My husband took me to the e.r. in Worcester and stayed for tests/observation overnight. I'm not taking well to the Sotolol. I think the doctors are going in the direction of a pacer put in.

Hi Cynthia,
I'm sorry to hear the news, and hope that things get straightened out for you very quickly. Try not to get discouraged. I anticipate being back in the hospital very soon to try and get this CHF under control, but I promise to hang in there if you do the same. Deal? 8-)
Take care,
Jim

Cynthia - I have a ICD/pacemaker partly because I was bradycardic on a very small amount of beta blockers and my blood pressure was very low. Ever since I got the device, it has been much better, and I now tolerate a high dose of beta blockers very well.
This might help alot, and the surgery is really no big deal.

thanks, Cynthia and I'm glad it is working good for you. I haven't actually met and spoken with the Boston doctors but will have an appointment very soon to discuss the action plan here. I think they are in agreement with the pacer. They tried the sotolol starting last Tuesday, but I was in extra low gear and yesterday had a heart rate of 40. I'm not a good candidate for this more potent beta blocker. I believe they will keep me on verapamil if I get a pacer
