Myectomy and mitral valce replacement

:?: I am getting ready to go to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for myectomy and mitral valve replacement surgery. I live in Kentucky. I was just wondering if anyone could give me some insight on what I will be going through and what to expect afterwards. I am pretty nervous about this but know that it has to be done.[/b]

There is a lot of information that others have shared on this site about those procedures. Please use the search function on this board and you will learn a lot. Hopefully someone else will also answer you with specifics, but I have no personal knowledge of these procedures.

Sorry I haven't been reviewing to reply. I had a myectomy and mitral valve repair at Cleveland in August 2002. Are you sure they are going to replace the valve? For my surgery thwey said they might but were able to repair. I would not be overly worried you are going to one of the great centers for the surgery.

It's been awhile now so I am starting to forget the specifics. Right after surgery I had some blood pressure issues which required a few extra days in intensive care so my hospital stay was 7 - 8 days. After, the first few weeks were tough, but it got easier. I started back to work part time after 6-8 weeks. If you have any specific questions, please let me know.

I spent 2 weeks @ Mayo, this Summer, I had a Myectomy & am very very glad I did. The Drs & Nurses & entire Staff @ Mayo are FABULOUS, they encourage your questions and allow you to comfortably express your doubts & fears. They make you feel as if you are their only Patient. I'm returning there 1st Week in March for follow up & some additional issues. I would be more than happy to have a Phone Conversation or answer any specific questions you have.
