It's been six months after my myectomy and I am doing great. I feel bad that I haven't written in a while, but since things have been going well I haven't felt the need. I will try to help others answer questions about myectomies and the disease.

I do have one concern. I have been working out at Curves which was suggested by the doctors at the Mayo Clinic. However I have noticed that stinging and pains in the muscles above my incision and my sternum returning. Is this because I am using these muscles and restrengthening them or should it be something telling me to stop the upper exercises? I have a call into my doctor, but was wondering others thoughts. How long does it take these pains to go away. Some days it feels like somebody sticking me with needles. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks,

Hi Kay!

It's wonderful to see your posting and to know that things are going well for you! I found post-myectomy that once I started using my upper body again that I had all kinds of strange sensations in/around my incision. I think it is just healing and using newly healed areas. Even today, over a year post-myectomy, I still have moments of those 'pins and needles'. However, it is always best to check in with your doctor - please let us know the verdict!

All the best,
Lynn

Kay,

I am glad to hear that you are doing well. I think that the myectomy was by far the best treatment that I ever had concerning my hcm. I had a 'colorful' treatment plan for many years before my surgery, and was very blessed to find the HCMA and Drs. Lever and Lytle.

I had my myectomy in 1999 and I still have a tightening feeling around my scar once in awhile. It is not uncomfortable, just something I notice. I remember having some minor tingling around the incision for at least a year after surgery. It was never anything uncomfortable either, just reminding me it was there, I guess :D . I agree with Lynn that you should double check with your doctor, also.

If you have any concerns please check in with your doctor. CURVES can be a bit rushed, make sure you are taking your time and staying very well hydrated.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I did speak to my doctor and she said she too thought it was just using the muscles, but if it was really uncomfortable I should ease up on the upper body exercises. :o)
