Hello, this is my first post but I've been reading for several months. I wanted to say thanks to everyone that makes this board possible. It has been a great help to me over the last year. Today is my 'rebirthday'.
To make a long story short - one year ago today I found out I had HCM the hard way. I was getting ready for work when I collapsed in the bathroom. Luckily my wife was there and she called 911 and my neighbors right away. I didn't wake up for two days and in the time I was 'out' I had had 10 more 'code blue' events in the hospital. I had an 'oncall' cardiologist that told my wife and mom to start making funeral arrangements and nurses that talked about me in the past tense.
At some point in the wee hours of the morning I had a doctor that tweaked my medication and I started to improve. Several days later the HCM diagnosis came in and my life has been different ever since.
It's only been in the last month that my recall memory has gotten to the point to where I can remember where my keys are at but at this point I've adjusted to the new 'normal'.
I found this site about a month after I got out of the hospital - it took me a while to just remember what this disease I had was. This site has played a big part in my recovery and showed me that I wasn't alone out there. Actually, I think I'm pretty well off compared to what some others are going through.
Once again, thanks for sharing. It has made a world of difference...
