I have been dianognosed with endocarditis on the mitral valve at Christmas. Since then I have been in hospital for seven weeks and got an ICD. My mitral valve has been severely damaged by the endocarditis (grade 4) and I am scheduled to be operated. The waiting list is 4-5 months, so I am looking for any other possibilities than the Academic Hospital in Leiden, Netherlands, where I live. Does any of you have any useful suggestions? The sugeon should be knowledgable in valve, but also know about myectomies, because I have a large gradient at the aorta valve as well!

Thank you for your input!

Welcome!

Please e-mail or call Lisa directly. She is our president and believes in giving referrals based on what works best for you --which means knowing you a little better than the board can convey. However, you can go to our links page in the meantime and read up about the different major heart centers over here. There are also some great people in London and Italy and maybe somewhere else in Europe, but Lisa would know more about that. you can also go to cardiomyopathy.org for the UK HCM organization and they will have more European-specific advice/info on medical care.

good luck,
S

Boudewijn,

My parents and brother got tested 2 weeks ago by a HCM specialist in Dordrecht. (all with no HCM :D)
If it's an option for you to travel there then I can get his name an number from them. They told me he was very knowledgeable. That's all I can tell you as I moved 4 1/2 years ago to the US.

Let me know,
