Does anyone know if Calcium in large amounts is good for the heart? I have heard that it is. Also does it pose a problem with Atenolol?

Calcium is necessary for proper heart function --however, it is very, very important for it to be balanced with magnesium and potassium. Large doses of any one of these will throw your system out of whack. Talk to a nutritionist and your doctor about getting a baseline taken to see if you are deficient in any of these before you start taking them. Then you can calculate a safe dose of all three.
I don't know of any interaction per se with beta-blockers, just that anything that increases heart function should help your beta-blocker help you.
take care,
S
