I'm 59 years old and had by second bypass surgery 9 month's ago. I had a MI at the age of forty with muscle damage the size of a Quarter. My first bypass lasted only 6 yrs before 2 of my 3 grafts restenosed. My most recent stress echocardiagram indicates an ejection factor of 15-20%.
They said I have thickening wall. may I assume that is Hypertrophic. Everytime I ask my Cardiologist about my prognosis, he replies that "they're making great progress with heart desease". Your thoughts Please!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack it sounds like you may have dilated cardiomyopathy or failure due to the MI's.
Ask your doctor for the complete name of your condition. THis will help us guide you to the best care.

Be well,
Lisa

Jack, I just wanted to say hello and that I'm glad you are researching to help find information. The more you know about what is wrong with your heart the more you know where to go for help.

I had the MI at age 40. Didn't need CABG until 12 years later and then again 6 yrs later. I think the heart enlarged gradually from initial MI for the next 10 years. Well, thank you for your quick reply and I will check with the Dr. to identify the type of myopathy. By the way I got a dual chamber pacemaker a couple of days after the the first CABG due to a AV block. Also I've had a Fem to Fem Bypass and my left carotid is totally blocked and my right is 70% occluded. Actually I feel pretty darn good. However, I stopped buyiny green bananas. I do know my Dr has mentioned some "thickening of the wall". Maybe I should change my name from Jack to Plaque.

My father once used that expression... "not buying green bananas"... That was about 2 years ago...since then his meds are better managed, he has an ICD/Pacer and spent the majority of this past winter on a boat in the Florida Keys...
Dont give up on those green bananas yet!
