I have been attending a yoga class, and am not restricting myself at all. I had the ablation in Sept last year, and think of myself as normal.....or did until recently, anyway.
I've had some funny heart rhythms and/or tachycardia after a couple of classes, especially where there have been lots of upside down poses. I am so flexible, and I love doing them all, but perhaps there are some I shouldn't be doing.
Does anyone know of any guidelines about yoga and HCM? Thanks for your help. Mary

Dear Mary,
I'm reminded of the Groucho Marx bit where the guy goes to the doctor and raises his arm and says, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." So the doctor says, "So don't do it!" :D
The reality is that yoga is great, but inverted poses probably put too much strain on your heart. Talk to your instructor about modified inversions where your back is on the floor but your legs are up. I can only suggest that you avoid doing anything that is giving you symptoms.
I do tai chi and it works really well for me --and no inversions!
take care,
S

I have nothing that I can refer to in the liturature...but I know what I feel when I do yogo - - if I am upside down then my head spins and I also feel some extra palpitations - why...I have no idea. My solution has been rather simple - I do not do any moves that require me to go upside and that seems to work find for me.

Thanks, Sarah and Lisa....
I guess I thought that because my ablation had such a good result and I've felt so good until just recently, that I could do everything.
I will stop doing the inverted poses, and see if that keeps me from having any problems later. The problems I've had haven't shown up during the yoga session, but later, when I'm at home.
Thanks for your help. Mary
