My visit with Dr. Sherrid today was excellent, so much so that I am cancelling my appt. in Albany. I see no point in speaking to a different Dr. now. He says that I have a full blown case of HCM and it is highly obstructive. I am going back next Wednesday for my follow up. He says we have some serious planning to do.

I was complaining about my problems, and he asked how far I can walk. I said on flat terrain I can walk 2 miles, and he said that was GOOD! I informed him that 2 miles is pathetic and it is amazing just how absurdly low American standards are for fitness, and that Doctors don't seem to be interested in keeping people strong. I felt pretty discouraged and was afraid that he would then decide that I had no REAL problems. Fortunately, when he looked over the data, he saw that I am, as I think is true, a far gone case.

He said that the blood pressure medication I have been taking , lisinopril, or prinivil, makes the obstruction of HCM patients worse, and advised me to stop it right away. He said next week we would figure out other meds to help me.

He was very attentive and engaged in the details of my case. Since I have tethered spinal cord and diabetes, it is a lot to sort through and frequently, I can sense that Doctors just tune out on all these details. But he didn't do that at all. Very, very fine Doctor.

Dear Liona,

I'm glad you like Dr. Sherrid and all of your issues are being addressed. Yes, ace-inihibitors (those -ilil drugs) are not usually used for HCM.

2 miles is good for HCMers!!!

Take care and keep us posted,

S

Liona,

I'm happy that you liked him. I'm sure the two of you will come up with a treatment plan that will work for you. Remember to take care of yourself.

I am glad all went well. Medications are tricky and often can make things much worse if not handled well... I am happy your on the path to finding meds that will work for YOU!
