I was wondering what if any meds changes there are after surgery. Or what new, permanent drugs are given after surgery.
Thanks,
Robbyn

Many people stay remain on beta-blockers post procedure - however the doses are usually much less.
Even post procedure you must remember that your heart is still thick and the relaxation is poor - medications help the heart relax...this has benefits for your heart long term (although there is not a great deal of data to back that up at this time).

I had my myectomy surgery in May 2002 and have remained on the
same dose of medicine. I take 240mg of the extended release
verapamil a day. I think I could cut back without any problems but
my dr. wants me on this dose.

Hi Robbyn,
In my case, I was weaned off of all of my meds during the month following myectomy. (I was on mega doses of inderal (beta-blocker) and verapamil, which made me very tired) I have since been placed on atenolol (another beta-blocker). I was started on 25mg/twice a day and am now taking 100mg/twice a day to keep my b/p down (which seems to be doing the trick).

I take Atenonol - but find it hard to take beta blockers, this is not the first one. I have CHF so I assume the Lasix will stay. So, along with Rythmodan and Vasotec - I was wondering if I might get rid of any. I think the drugs sometimes make you feel as bad as the disease.
Oh well, at least it sounds like there are no new ones.
Thanks

Prior to my surgery, I was on pretty high doses of both Nadolol and Verapimil. After surgery I was started on a very small dosage of Metropolol. Although the dosage has increased slightly, this is far less medication than I was taking before.
