Margie, I've never been there. I know you will get loads of people here who have and are willing to tell you all about it. I just want to say that I've heard wonderful things about it.

As the board moderator, I'm not supposed to play favorites, but I _have_ been to the Mayo Clinic --4 times-- and I LOVE THEM. I sent my doctors' thank you notes after my last visit.

They are wonderful, efficient, caring, supportive, brilliant, and a lot more.

I was there in-patient and out-patient and both experiences were very well done. I only had one blip on leaving the hospital one time, I think I had to wait for my scripts to be filled for about 20 minutes.

After you have your appointment, they will send you a booklet about Mayo and a folder with all your appointments that they have set up. You will go from test to test and if you can't walk around they'll have someone push you around. You don't usually have to wait very long for each test and each one is very well done (eg the ECG is not 5 or 12 leads but 14 or 16 I think) and they develop the xrays while you are there (in about 5 min) in case they need more, so you don't have to go back later. The day after the tests, you meet with the doctors so they have time to read over the results and confer with each other. Even if you only see 1 or 2 doctors, they will have talked to the whole team for input. Then they will make recommendations on more tests or treatment or both and then you all decide what to do from there. Very inclusive, very educational, very awesome.

I went to Mayo Clinic to get evaluated, and a month later, for surgery. I loved that place. The doctors took their time to explain everything...procedure, steps before and after the surgery,...none of the rush thru stuff. The nursing staff had the patience of angels. I highly recommend everyone to get treated there.
