Had my Myectomy on August 9th at Cleveland. Sr. Smedira did a great job. The anxiety going into this and waiting for the surgery date was the worst. The night before my surgery my screaming inner child just would not shup up! But the morning of she finally quieted down and I went peacefully into the OR. Good thing they knocked me right out before I realized how many tubes and IVs were actually going to be put in my body. After the surgery I did not do well with the breathing tube, kept trying to get it out. The nurses in the ICU were great and got it out as soon as they could. I had the cutest nurse for the night shift the day after surgery. His name was Brett and he took such great care of me. My husband is not happy to have one of my best memories in the ICU be of this adorable male nurse. The following morning, after removing the chest tubes - what a relief that was, they took me to the step down unit. I have to say that all the staff was great from the aides to the nurses to Dr. Smedira's staff, especially Dr. Muffiti. They sent me back to the hotel on Friday, only the fourth day after surgery. When the doctor asked if I was ready I said "I don't know am I?" . My husband and I stayed the weekend and on Monday went for one final check with the nurse practitioner. there were a few minor glitches, med adjustments, but I was told I could go home on Tuesday.
So now, after being home a little better than a week I think I am doing great. I am walking a little more each day with little shortness of breath - just slightly lightheaded and astounding my family and friends with my recovery. When I saw my cardiologist and told him how well I think I'm doing he said "Well that's why we sent you to Cleveland!"
Thanks for all the support you guys give us newbies. All the info you post is amazing and encouraging.
All the new myectomites, hope you are all doing well. I keep you in my thoughts and prayers and hope that we get to meet someday. It's only going to get better each day.
