Our HCM Cardiologist recommends staying on Altace, it is apparently tissue specific for HCM and other ace inhibitors are not. We had asked about switching due to the cost of Altace vs. Lisinopril being on the $4.00 prescription list. So, it never hurts to ask, at least it is an answer.

I am understanding that ACE inhibitors are indicated in only non obstructed HCM patients. Is this also your understanding?

That's my understanding too.

I never had any isuues with Altace pre HCM(O) diagnosis. Of course, it was immediately discontinued when I saw a HCM doc. Post myectomy, it has come up in a conversation but have not needed it at this point, but knowing that it is out there is a very good thing!

I'd have to concur about lisinopril not being good for HCM with obstruction. I was on lisinopirl for 7 years, and symptoms only worsened. This was of course before I was known to have HCM or HCM with obstruction.

For those without obstruction, it may work well indeed.
