Just a FYI, we visited our local cardiologist last week and asked some questions regarding the new "Amiodarone" that is now available, and may have less side effects. She didn't know if it was approved for HCM, but called Dr. Ommen at Mayo and he said, no, it is not approved or tested for HCM. So for now, staying on the good old standard Amiodarone.

I'm sorry you don't have an alternative drug yet, but I'm really happy to hear your doctor was willing to call Dr. Ommen to get more information so she could better help you.

Are you referring to Multaq. I've never heard it called the "New Amiodorone" but my cardiologist has put me on it for my A-fib knowing I have HCM?

Amiodarone is extensively metabolized in the liver, and can affect the metabolism of numerous other drugs. It is an anti arrhythmic agent used for various types of tachyarrhythmias, both ventricular and supra ventricular arrhythmia's.

I have also heard from my cardiologist that Multaq (Generic=Dronedarone) has the same effectiveness as amiodarone but without the side effects. I have to see if my insurance will pay for it, if they do I will be switching.
