I am so excited! We will be hosting a Family FUNdraiser on Halloween- in the afternoon, before Trick-or-Treating, kids can come in costume if they wish. My husband is the director of a local recreation facility and we are having the event there. Families can come, buy tickets at the door and will be able to play games, jump on some inflatables, use the batting cages, participate in a Piece of Cake walk, get their faces painted, eat some yummy Halloween related snacks- all for the price of a ticket or two for each individual activity. I am mulling over a craft table which kids can do a Halloween type craft as well- of course for a ticket. We are doing all of this for HCM Awareness in our community. I am hoping it will become an annual event.
My boys school has agreed to let me send home flyers with all 400 kids in the school and I am trying to see if I can get on the radio or a local TV morning news shot to talk about the fundraiser and HCM. We will see....
Can't wait!

Excellent ! Way to go Kaye ! This is a great idea and not all that hard to do ! And to have an "in" at the Rec Center........beautiful !! This is a great time of year to do such an event. I'm looking forward to your report. You know, I wonder how the local chapter of the AHA might be able to help advertise/market your event with whatever they have going between now and then?
Wishing you much success !!

Kaye - This is great news! I like the fact its kid focused.
Suggestion - let other kid related sites know of it, (lYMCA, Boys & girls clubs, boy & girl scouts, local sports associations) they may be interested in hosting next year or for another seasonal event. Congratulations!

Great idea and initiative taken Kaye. You are an inspiration!
And note to everyone else out there.....there are lots of things you can do in YOUR community to raise money and awareness of HCM. If you want to do something, call the office and we can get your started!

Thanks, everyone! I just received in the mail a free overnight stay at a new casino/hotel and free dinner at the hotel as well. I asked them a couple of weeks ago if they would donate a night at their hotel for me to give as a door prize at the event (people will actually have to use a ticket to enter and can enter as many times as they want, as long as they buy a ticket). They never responded and I was about to call them again and today a free overnight stay and dinner arrived in the mail!
I am excited! Now I just hope people show up!
Way to go, Kaye! So proud of you!
Did a local media spot work out? What did you decide about the craft activity?
Keep us posted on how things are going when you can.

Hi Theresa,
I haven't contacted the local media yet...I have been so busy at work and then forget about it when I get home, that I haven't done that yet. I have submitted the information to a local TV station to put on their website, am looking to hear back from them as to if they will do it. My plan is to contact our paper and let them know as well.
I am doing a craft table...I ordered some Halloween crafts from Oriental Trading Company (love that place!) for very cheap and will have those to do. I am also thinking of making a "Spooky Room" that kiddos can go through and see a mummy who has all sorts of his insides showing, the insides will be food that they can touch (this is depending on how rampant H1N1 is by that time).
I am super excited for this! I am having a ball planning it and now wished I would have gone into a job that involves fundraising rather than teaching...I kind of feel a new calling! LOL.
Kaye
Sounds great! Gotta love Oriental Trading!
Hmmm. Just helping you brainstorm.... If you do your ' spooky room,' what about having individually wrapped (prepackaged) candies/treats taped/pinned to the 'innards' of the mummy maybe -- to help avoid th spread of germs. A bulk size bottle of hand sanitizer might be nice, too. Wish I was there to help. Sounds like fun!

Update on the FUNdraiser. It is in Marion Iowa so any fellow Iowans reading this check out the map and find your way here. We are right by Cedar Rapids. Kaye has lots of great things planned, batting cages, jump houses, games with Matt, come in costume (mine is a secret) the kids will be done in time for trick or treating. The event is from 2-4. If you can come and need directions either PM Kaye or myself and we will get them to you. Plans are really coming together for this and I know I am her Mom and I am supposed to be proud of her but Kaye has done an awesome job getting this together what a fun time we will all have. Pictures will be available next week.
