After 2 months on 200mg of metropolol daily, I just got retested and my pressures dropped from a bell ringing 80 and 210 to 13 and 50. I've had crazy dreams about school buses and roombas and some late afternoon fatigue, but I'll take them for that kind of reduced gradient.
Even if it is transient, it looks like it will buy me some time before surgery and I am starting a new job, so this is very good news for me.
I had to switch from ER to regular metropolol a few weeks ago and so far I can't tell the difference.
If you have high gradients and they recommend a beta blocker, it is certainly worth trying. I was told to expect only a 40% chance that it would work so I was expecting them not to, but was very happy to see the effect.
