I would like to see our Family Physician's get more education on HCM. I had the same Family Doctor for 12 years had the same symptoms and complaints. Yes, he knew my family history and still never referred me to a cardiologist and I went undiagnoised until I moved to another state. I met a Family Physician who I tell everyone "he saved my life" he listened to me! If I could give him an award I would. Thank you Dr. Cox Knoxville, TN.
Thank you to all those doctors who take that extra minute to just listen.

I'm very happy for you that you were able to get a new physician who listened to you! It seems such a minute thing, but some don't seem to take the time necessary to understand a patient's complaint. Congrats!

I gave my Family Physician MY copy of your book. After she sent me to a HCM expert I thought that was the least thing I could do. Maybe it will help someone else. I also went through several doctors until I found one the would listen to the patient.

Shirley,
I had a very similar situation. My doctor of years diagnosed me with anxiety despite my strong objections. I was convinced I had something wrong with my heart(which I guess is common among anxiety patients). He retired and I was referred to a young new doctor and he did this amazing thing...he listened to me. I tell everyone that he saved my life and gave me back some sanity. I started to believe the hype that I was just plain old crazy! Which might be true also. So thank you to all the doctors who listen to us. Sometimes we know a thing or two.
Thanks for the post Shirley,
Steve

I was also fortunate that my family Dr. knew something about HCM. She is the one who diagnosed me with it after listening to my heart murmur. She said it had an unusually loud 'echo' and sent me for an echocardiogram that confirmed it. From there she referred me to a cardiologist in our area who had some experience with HCM patients.
