Finally seeing a real specialist, Dr Maron, at Tufts. Oct 23rd or thereabouts, still waiting for the exact date and time.
I have had a myectomy and mitral valve replacement at a non HCM center because I was scared and didn't know any better.
At the time I was a member of HCMA and bought and read the book, looked at the web site, but who trusts a web site full of sick people? Well, I do now but first I had to prove my ignorance.
Now I am going for education and aftercare. I feel fine but need to establish a baseline with an expert and get someone to "drive the bus"

Please accept a sincere THANKS from me to all of you for helping me start to understand this journey.

You will love Tufts! I am very biased, but I love it. Dr. Maron is so knowledgeable and honest and fun! The whole place is great to visit, but I'll let you figure out all its awesome secrets. Good luck with everything.

Kevin,

I am so glad you are getting checked out by a specialist. I too had a “myectomy” and mitral valve replacement by a non-expert because I was sick and felt I had no other choice (getting the death sentence is a good motivator, huh?). My surgical outcome was not good though. But it sounds like your surgery went well and I hope all checks out!

There is nothing like having a specialist in charge of your care. I no longer have to shop for the next cardiologist that I will just end up firing when he says/does something ignorant. I finally feel safe.
