We're off to San Antonio tomorrow morning for an appointment Monday morning for my husband with Dr. Marc Feldman.

We were looking through the medical records we received to take with us and I've found some things which worry me, though I won't have any complete answers until Monday.

Looks like his left ventricle is dilated, and his ejection fraction is way down (in the 30's). After his heart cath, the cardiologist here in El Paso mentioned that his heart isn't quite as thick as he would've thought it would be with HCM. From everything I've read, it sounds like he's in end stage, and it's becoming Dilated Cardiomyopathy - or is already there. I realize this is not very good, and since I'm not a doctor I won't speculate as to what's next, but wanted to give everyone an idea of what's going on here.

Just out of curiousity - does end stage happen even with interventions? Or with proper care can it be avoided? Thinking back now, I'm guessing this is what happened with his mom and sister (Priscilla).

Will keep everyone updated with what's going on when we find out! :)

I think that we all hope that it can be avoided with proper interventions, but there is certainly no guarantee. Even if you do everything "right," you could still wind up in end stage HCM.

Please try and not worry about this beforehand (easy for me to say!). You sound like you have some good questions to ask & I wouldn't put too much into it before you talk with the doctor.

Good Luck & keep us informed.
