Okay, finally! Whoo! We got done what our (former) pediatric cardiologist told us could not be done - we've been approved through our insurance to go to Houston AND we've got an appointment on July 17th for Zak!

We were told he had only gotten *1* patient approved in 8 years - and not to hold our breath. So we got our pediatrician to call... and in a matter of minutes - an approval. We called last week to find out if the doc had sent the referral, he had not, so we called Houston and asked them what to do - and we took care of all the faxing and everything, and we were told today about our appointment next week.

The coordinator we spoke with at Texas Children's Hospital told us she was appalled by the behavior of the local cardio and she was 'very mad' that he gave us that prognosis. So.. for the first time in 3 weeks, I feel ok right now.

I wanted to thank everyone for helping me by being patient with my initial crazy breakdown.

Glad things are moving forward..do not ever worry about crazy breakdowns, we all have had them and will have more likely in the future. From your experience you will be able to help someone else get through theirs.

I'm really glad you took matters into your own hands and pushed for this. I'm betting you will feel much better after your appointment next week. Once you speak to someone who u nderstands what's going on and has the expertise to handle these situations, it's unbelievable how much relief you feel. Please keep us posted on the appt.

I echo what Reenie said. I am also proud of you for taking things into your own hands and making the appointment on your own. It is your son's life....not that doctor's, and you should not have to put up with that kind of treatment.

Debbie - Welcome.

I'm sure you are providing some wonderful reassurance when you share your # of 14 years with your doctor. He is well known to the HCMA, but it's always nice for others to hear of personal experiences.
