During my initial diagnosis, I remember my primary cardiologist alerting me that I should be premedicated prior to any dental procedures. Now, 1.5 years later, I find myself needing to get a wisdom tooth pulled.

I haven't talked to my cardiologist for about a year as I chose to get my ICD implanted at Hopkins and have been under their care. When I called today, the nurse checked in with him and indicated that the guidelines for premedication have changed and that it would NOT be required.

I wanted to get some feedback from the forum to see what their experience has been regarding premedication for dental procedures. Thanks in advance...

Use the search feature to find lots of discussion on this. The bottom line is, it is an individual thing to be determined by you and your doctor, but most of the HCM experts do not agree with the AHA's new position completely abolishing the recommendation as some HCM'ers require premedication.
