I was diagnosed with HCM when I was very young and it didn't really affect me very much. However, within the last year my pain has doubled and I get out of breath very easily (like when I go up a flight of stairs). I was just wondering if anyone else experiences similar symptoms.
Thank you.

Yes, that is very typical of HCM. Have you been to your cardiologist lately for a checkup? Are you obstructed? If so, you might consider asking about changing your medication, and whether your obstruction has increased. If so, septal reduction could help these symptoms. Also, a visit to a specialty center, if you haven't been to one, would really help. Call the office for a complete review of your situation.

Many with HCM have an increase in symptoms at one time or another. I agree about calling the HCMA office. The phone number is 973-983-7429.

What type of pain are you talking about? Chest pain? If you are having this you need to go to urgent care to be checked or to at least contact your doctor ASAP and let he / she know. Let us continue to hear how you are.

my son is 12, newly diagnosed, he says he sometimes has this issue, I notice if he is going up a big hill he is winded on occassion,
Being female, I am 35 with obstructive HCM and I do have this issue, but I find it to be more intense with hormones, depending on where I am with my hormones, so depending on your age, and your body changing , this could be something to consider and talk to your doctor about, Just a thought.......

I also get the pain sometimes walking up the stairs or even just walking from the car to class. When I was younger I was an swimmer and use to enjoy hiking and other physical activities but now I walk with the dog can be painful.

I also notice that my SOB is worse during hormonal times. Along with that I wheeze when I lie down during this time. Has a doc ever explained why this is to you?

wow...Ive noticed that I tend to get tired the week before my cycle as well. I have always chalked it up to PMS. We've always been told that being tired, cranky , swelling and etc was normal for that time frame. I never thought of it as being part of HCM.
Could it be that it IS a hormonal thing and not a HCM problem ?
In fact, that is the only time I get palpitations. Tell your OBGYN that and they will tell you its normal.

HEy! I am 22 and was diagonised with HOCM almost 4 years ago... I was ok to start off with, didnt really effect me, but about 2 years ago i really struggled to walk anywhere, i was always out of breathe and constently in pain, about 6 months before my op was the worst and it just kept getting worse. I had a myectomy about 6 months ago now, and i have never felt better. I am back playing sport and going to the gym, have so much more energy. Just make sure that you listen to what your body is telling you, being young myself i understand how this can be such a burdon, but this condition is something that you can live with and there is alot of people out there and on this site that can help you out with support and answering your questions. if you ever wanna chat. please let me know, but make sure that you regually visit this site , the people on here are all going through the same sorta thing as us, and there all here to support you.
