I am currently scheduled to go to Stanford again on May 8th to meet with the surgeons for the first time. My cardiologist there is Dr. Ashley and so far (after only three visits) I'm pretty impressed with the level of care. However, my Mom insists on coming with me for each trip and I wonder if anyone knows of a reasonably priced hotel in the area? Or if Stanford has anyplace for family to stay when someone is in going there for surgery. Any feedback on the Stanford area will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gayle:

These links might be of some help:
http://www.stanfordhospital.com/forPatients/lodgingFood/accommodationsProgram
http://www.stanfordhospital.com/PDF/corporate_housing_contracted_rates2006.pdf

I would also call the Stanford office and ask if they have a more recent list, as this one is dated 2006. If you are going to have surgery in the future, they have options for lodging, as you'll see on the website.

I have not stayed in any of the motels/hotels on their list, but here is one in nearby Sunnyvale where I have stayed many nights:

http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/sb/1/en/hotel/mtvsv?_requestid=237156&crUrl=/h/d/6c/1/en/hotelsearchresults&rpb=hotel&_requestid=237160

It's an extended stay hotel, so it's going to cost more than, say, a Super 8. The last time we stayed there, rooms were about $150 or so a night, but the rooms are comfortable and pleasant. Just be sure to ask for a ground level floor if stairs are a problem.

Gayle,

My half brother has been a life flight nurse at Stanford for many years. I'll ask him for suggestions and let you know.
