This just happened here in Minnesota. A 17yr old basketball player was just taken out of the game and collapsed and suffered a heart attack. Fortunatly, there was a firefighter, a EMT, and a nurse in the stands. The school also had an AED on hand. They applied the AED and got him to the hospital where they put him in an induced coma by cooling his body(sorta like what they did to that NFL player last fall). He awoke a couple days later and is now at home(post 1week), with a new ICD. No mention(yet) of whether he has HCM or not. My bet would be that he does.....But none-the-less, another great example of having AEDs and people who know how to use them!!!
