Who can recommend a good place to stay within walking distance of the Mayo Clinic? Not expensive, nothing fancy. I have been doing a lot of searching, want free parking at the site if possible also. There seems to be such a vary of prices, from $35 to $150?
Thanks in advance.

There is a huge disparity in pricing. With that being said, you should decide what price point you are willing to pay, and Google Rochester hotels and tourism and you can find a list of the hotels with a map.

You should stay downtown. There are many hotels in walking distance to the Clinic and it depends how much you want to spend and what amenities you want. I personally have stayed at the Staybridge Suites, but that was all the way at St. MAry's which is probably not what you want, and am staying at the Marriott downtown in a few weeks. There is also the Kahler Grand. Both the Marriott and the Kahler are attached to the Clinic by underground tunnels so you don't have to go outside. I think that the Marriott is newer and more expensive than the Kahler. If it were me, I would probably pick the Kahler as it is in the middle of everything and the closest to the Clinic.

If you find nothing downtown, al motels have shuttle service (free) to the clinic. We now stay at the Brentwood, downtown. There are 2 of them. Brentwood Courtyard, and just the Brentwood. Good luck with everything.

We stayed at Extended Stay America which was (I think) about 3-4 miles from Mayo and St. Mary's. The shuttle service is great but, as I recall, doesn't run on Sundays. If you are flying in and don't want to rent a car or be dependant on shuttles, you would be better off staying downtown. There are several choices so do your research ;)

Hi,
You can check either the Mayo website(they have a list of many hotels in the area). Or check this one www.rochestercvb.org it's the rochester convention and visitors bureau. They'll also have a list. I've stayed at a few different ones(Radisson, Kahler, Hilton Garden Inn). They're all about the same and like others have said, most of the ones that are not right next to the clinic offer free shuttles. Good Luck.....Kent

Back from Mayo, stayed downtown at Courtyard. Just fine. Walking distance. Everything downtown looks OK to me. Just a huge difference in prices.

We had a great trip to Mayo, not good news, but at least a firm diagnosis and treatment. We always felt like our local Dr.'s really didn't know much about HCM, or if that was the real diagnosis. Dr. Ommen was excellent, gave us the official diagnosis of HCM, real numbers and real reports. At least now we know and we know how to manage the disease and he is confident he can make my husband feel better with meds. I guess the Mayo Clinic and it's physicians are world renowned for a reason.

I am so glad it went well. You were in good hands. While having it is not great at least properly diagnosed and good care you can feel a lot more confident.

We stayed at the Springhill Suites in November 2007 because my son had his surgery at St. Mary's Hospital, Mayo Clinic. We traveled by free shuttle service to downtown for all of his appointments prior to his surgery or walked downtown. Beware, shuttles do not work on weekends or evenings, but begin running early during the weekday mornings. You have to check shuttle service schedules from your hotel. Springhill also has free shuttle service to and from the airport and free hot breakfast daily. The staff was very friendly, and informative. Good luck to you. Sue S and family
