Hello,
Richard's back in school (just in time for lunch). We had a 9:00a.m. appointment with Dr. Link at New England Medical Center in Boston. We met his secretary Jill, whom I have spoken with a few times before. Richard then got another EKG (darn, still abnormal!). Nurse Maureen came to get him closer to 9:30. She did an interview with all the expected questions and took his blood pressure. When she was finished she paged Dr. Link.
Dr. Link went over the reasons why an ICD was being recommended. One being that Richard's septum was 2.6cm and he was only fifteen. The other being his blacking out in August. Having heard that he could not ever play competitive sports (what he lived and breathed for) the first two times, made the third time no more bearable. Nonetheless, Richard is quite agreeable to getting this done sooner than later. He just wants to start moving again with peace of mind (okay, without me warning him to be careful).
I have a list of things we went over today. I won't type them all. If anyone wants to be advised, you can respond to this. One of my main questions that I had not asked anyone previously was...what happens to the leads when he continues to grow for the next 3-5 years. The answer was simple....they just leave enough slack.
So, the procedure will be done on Friday, October 5 at 7:00a.m. It will be done in the same office area where we met. The actual procedure is about 45 minutes, with most of the time for preparation. He is expected to be brought across the street to the another building, where he will stay Friday night.
I forgot to ask about the billing. I guess I'll save that for another day.
bye for now!
