We have been waiting for an appointment at the Mayo Clinic in MN to see Dr. Steven Ommen. My husbands records were sent up by courier, the "team" was supposed to review them and set us up for an appointment. My husband has had some recent trouble again with CHF and our cardiologist called Mayo again, they say they are still working on getting us in. Anyone have a similiar experience? Waiting for an appointment? I think this is who we want to see, I have read a lot about him and it seems like an appropriate referral.

I went there for a myectomy last year and was able to schedule an appointment about 4 - 6 weeks or so from the time that I first called. To make the process go faster, you may want to call Dr. Ommen's scheduler directly. I am not at home right now where I have this information, but if you send me a PM to remind me, I will look it up and send it to you later this evening. Once you get in touch with Suzan the scheduler, things should go pretty quickly.

And by the way, the trip to Mayo and Dr. Ommen are worth the wait, I promise. I am going back in a few weeks myself and I am participating in a Mayo conference on patient and family centered care because I liked the place so much.

Hi Amy! I have been dealing with Dr. Ommen's office the past week for an appointment. I talked to Lisa and she thought I might have had a hold up on someone's desk. I would just stay in contact. Like Cynthia said, you can call Suzane. I spoke to her on Monday. She was really nice and got right back to me and we got everything arranged. Good Luck!

Spoke with Dr. Ommen's office. We have our appointment, October 10 and 11. so that is a relief. They are sending us a packet in the mail with the specifics. Anyone recommend a good motel to stay at close to the clinic, not too expensive?

here is the link to the mayo clinic's travel info: http://www.mayoclinic.org/travel-rst/

here is a link to the hotels near the clinic--please note that there is the clinic and then there is the hospital (st. mary's) that is 2 miles away.

(click on the link to the directory at the top to get the info on each hotel)

the holiday inn city centre in that list is now a holiday inn express, btw.
i personally would stay at the hilton garden inn. i've stayed at the radisson when i've had money but HGI when i haven't. they are decent.

good luck!
