Hi Everyone,
I had my tricuspid replaced(with a porcine(pig) valve) on June 20. They also repaired my mitral valve. Everything went great. I was in ICU for 4 days and then a regular room for 2 days. They did the surgery on Wed and I went home the next Tuesday!! I can't believe how much better I feel, plus I dropped 20lbs of fluid. I'm just laying low now and letting the sternum heal, can't wait for that so I can get back to playin golf!!! They also have me doing cardiac rehab 3x a week. THANKS for all the good thoughts and prayers.....Kent

Hi Kent
I'm glad your surgery went well and you're feeling much better.
I recently learned that my tricuspid valve in my new heart is leaking and for right now they are watching it. I have gained a considerable amount of weight since my heart transplant in May 2006. During my annual check-up they focused more on my tricuspid valve during an echo and learned that it is leaking and that it is a major cause of my weight gain. I was told that in the future there may be a need to replaced or repaired it. So, reading your progress and how well your surgery went is a little comforting to me. (I know all to well, not everyone is the same, but promising news nonetheless).
I hope you feel better and better as you recovery period continues.

I didn't know a valve leaking could make it hard to lose weight or it would make you gain weight all my valves are leaking at least moderate leaks I will have to bring this up with the doctor I have been beating myself up over not being able to lose weight and the doctor has been riding me big time about my weight, I have never had problems pulling off weight but now it is impossible for me it seems as much as I sweat I ought to be a toothpick by now Please take care

As you can see, Kent dropped 20 lbs after his surgery.
I was told my weight gain is caused because of medications I'm on along with my tricuspid valve leaking.
If I were you I would tell my cardiologist about Kent and I and ask if this could be your problem too with weight gain. It certainly can't hurt to ask. I have learned that I must be my own adovacte and believe me I ask plenty of questions.
