Well it has been six months since my myectomy. Short of the annoyance my ICD casues me, I can honestly say I feel 100% back to normal again (maybe better since I can do things I couldn't do before).

Two weeks ago they stopped my beta blocker all together. My docs (Lichtenburg and Ommen) are going to run some benchmark tests when I get up there. Last time (8 months ago) I did a stress echo I woke up staring at the ceiling because my obstruction caused me to pass out. They were ready to hit me w/the paddles!

Well, guess we'll see what they say.

I'll post the results when I get back...

Got back Monday night. Still amazes me how efficient they are up there. Good news is that after six months they cannot measure any obstruction.

It amazes me is how long their echos are. Everywhere else I have been it is half the time. They also gave me a chest X-Ray, EKG, and had some blood drawn.

Bottom line is everything is good. I can continue just living life. And I am not going to waste it either.

I met w/Dr. Ommen for about an hour. I would say the majority of the time we talked about genetic testing. In the end, I decided that it made sense to invest in it. What was clear was that the testing is for my kids, not me. Ommen stated that regardless of the outcome, it was unlikely that he would change any medical direction based on the findings (i.e. pull my ICD out).

Now having this info for Dr. Cetta (my kids cardiologist....up at Mayo as well, but does clinics once a month in Chicago), could be very interesting.

Kids life insurance is locked and loaded, so if bad news comes....at least they are covered.

We also talked about me not being on any meds again. Although they are cautious in this area, they are going to let me continue down this road. He just wants me to keep an eye on my heart rate while running.

Anyway, not much else in the area of new info about HCM.

All and all a good trip and thanks for all your kind words...

Dave

Hey Dave...

Happy Birthday! I just noticed at the bottom of the discussion forums front page, they have "Today's Birthdays" flagged out, and sure enough, there's "cimdxb2 (39)". Enjoy your new lease on life. I hope the difference I feel post-myectomy (mine was 8 days ago) will eventually be as dramatic as what you've felt over the last 6 months.

God Bless,
Rich G
