Will be at Mayo on the 9th and 10th. Flying in from Chicago on the 8th (of course after the Bears beat the Bill's at Soldier Field :)

With that said, I have airline reservations w/NWA. I haven't made hotel reservations yet. Seeing as we are flying directly into Rochester, I wasn't planning on renting a car. Was planning on Cab'n it around.

With that said, any good ideas for hotel options?

Still can't belive this is all happening, but I keep being told this Myectomy is worth it!

The following thread has a number of suggestions for where to stay. I was happy with the Grande Kahler when I was there in '04. Good luck!

Hi, I live in the Twin Cities and have been to Mayo a number of times, tho' not recently. One time we stayed at the Holiday Inn which is a few miles away from Mayo. Another time, we stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn which is connected via skyway to Mayo. You may want to check the website for the Rochester convention and visitors bureau.
It is www.rochestercvb.org They'd have all sorts of hotels listed.....GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Oops....forgot to ask, who's doing your myectomy? I had Dr Schaff and was quite happy with the procedure. I was out of the hospital and back home within a week. One other thing.....this week, Vikings 14, Bears 10 Go Vikes....

Don't know the doctor yet, they did mention a Dr. Derani(sp?). I am sure they are all good up there though.

Bears 3-0, Vikings 2-1. Enough said. :)

I had a myectomy done by Dr. Dearani in August. We stayed at the Staybridge Suites across the street from St. Mary's. It is more convenient I think to be across from the hospital than the clinic if you will be having surgery because your relatives/friends can easily visit whenever, and it will be easier for you when you are released. I also felt comforted that if something went wrong after discharge, I was right across the street and could be back to the hospital in a flash.

We did rent a car as it is not so easy to get around town at night or on weekends, but mostly my husband used it to run to the Hy-Vee and pick up food to cook at night. The Staybridge has a full kitchen, and after surgery they want you on a low sodium diet for a few weeks so eating out (or food from out) can be challenging.

BTW, Dr. Dearani is amazing. Consider yourself lucky if you get him as a surgeon. (Nothing against Schaff --just my personal bias!)
