View Full Version : Plan B is coming......

We are now at the start of plan B. Tommy was in A- fib on Tues and Wed, in bed all day, no energy, very sleepy. He converted back to sinus on Thurs am.
I spoke to Dr. Lever yesterday evening........he agrees with the PMD. We will put Tommy in the ICU unit at Harris hospital early this week to start sotalol.
The plan is for a three day stay.
Dr. Lever & I discussed the need for Tommy to see the Heptologist (liver doc). I explained that Tommy is just so tired of traveling and his moods are up and down. I advised that once we know if the sotalol will control the fib, we will plan on going back to CCF for a liver work up. The lactulose has brought the ammonia level back down to the high end of normal.
The last couple of days have been real "down days" for Tommy. He just wants a period of normalcy..........like that happens for us. I am praying for a good two or three weeks. We can spend more time with lil' Tomy before school starts, hopefully get through his eye surgery, and get ready for school before returning to CCF.
I also have many changes at work with my transfer and our new coversion of the EMR updates and hospital finally getting on an EMR system. They are intergrating all medical centers and their EMRs together thru a portal. I need to be there to complete my part in this and train my docs.
Pray for us to get to that point and for the sotalol to work. Tommy needs some positive things happening for him.
God Bless!

Howdy Dearheart,
Just remember it’s always darkest before the roof caves in. Actually, I think your roof already caved in and now you’re working out of the debris – at least I hope that is the case. I too know the feeling of ‘enough is enough’.
I’m sending good wishes and good spirits to watch over you and your family. That should do the trick.

Sherry, Our prayers and positive thoughts go out to the two of you. Be glad tommy that the two of you have each other, Each day no matter how disconcerting is another day with the ones we love. I can empathise with you, I have had what seems like months with little or no positive and felt the desperation of wanting to quit. Head up and "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" a Cliche' but my nephew once said that to me about 4 years ago through a bad time and he was only 6 at the time. Out of the mouths of Babes.....

Sherry happy thoughts and prayers are coming your way. I took Sotalol before transplant and handled it very well and I took a lot. Tell Tommy to hang in there. Good luck with your conversion to EMR I do not envy you.

We were given the okay to put Tommy in our "little hospital" in Bryson City. They agreed that he could go in a regular room on "tele". The nurses are "freaking", but they'll just have to get over it!! Anything complicated terrifies them. Imagine that!! We are fixing to educate the hospital nurses on HCM. Since our docs run the hospital inpatients they have to deal with it.
This will allow him to be down the hall from me. Our office is attached to the hospital and I'll be less than 1 min from his room. His PMD lives 5 minutes away and another supervising physician is two minutes away. He lives right next to the hospital.
The girls and I can take turns checking on him through out the day. I can take my lunch breaks with him. Due to our update to 6.0 in the EMR's, I get to go in at 10:00 am on Thurs and I have to leave Friday at noon. We have training at another bigger hospital 20 miles away. I told him that I'd bring lil' Tomy back to have dinner and visit with him Friday night.
If all goes well he'll return home on saturday morning, hopefully feeling better.
I so pray for a better quality of life for him.
Thanks for all the support and prayers!
God Bless!

well............he is finally in the hospital again. He was a very unhappy person this morning, just wanted to stay home and take the "pills". After being fussed and cussed, he finally showed up at the hospital and was admitted mid morning. I had to work through my lunch so, I only had about ten minutes to visit him around 1:30pm. I did go sit with him for an hour after getting off work (1 1/2 hours late!)
He was much calmer and felt bad for "acting out" this am. I told him that I understand and it's okay. He's been through a lot and it's still coming at him!
This hospital is so very quiet, that he called the kids to talk to them. Can you imagine a hospital that is too quiet! Most just dream of that!
They have his cpap, oxygen, and fan set up for him, he just called to say goodnight. I hope that the sotalol works and the three days of quiet does good for his "psych". He definately needs some positive things going his way.
Several people including two docs and our homehealth rep are worried about the stress all of this has put on me. I promised to take a vaction at the end of the year. I put in for it today, I'll take Dec 26th thru Jan 3 rd off. I can spend quality time with my family at home! I'm tired of traveling, to many miles this year!
Thanks to all for the continual support and prayers for our family.
God Bless!

Hang in there! I know you have been through so much. I pray that the medicine does what it needs to do, and that Tommy feels better quickly. Stress can be so difficult on your body. Just try to get some good sleep each night and relax when you can. I know that is very difficult. I am thinking about you and hope things turn around quickly for you guys! Janet

He is getting bored! He has done wonderful. The sotalol seems to be working well. He's had two uneventful days. Yeah!! He's his grumpy self and can't wait until tomorrow morning to get back home. He told Harvey (his PMD) that if he was late in the morning to discharge him, he'd just leave a note. Yeah right!
I'm happy that the sotalol is working and just pray that it continues to do so. He will probably want to go out tomorrow since he's been "locked up" since Wed. Maybe a picnic by the creek in the National Park will cheer him up.
Thanks to all for your support and prayers.
God Bless!

Yeah for Sotolol! In spite of some of the side effects, it has kept me in a good rhythm for most of 3 years. May the same be true for Tommy.
