DO THEY REALLY KNOW????????

I'm starting a new thread to ask the question about effexor and effexor XR. Earlier this week or last another thread was started about a GP prescribing Effexor XR and complications developed. I called my pharmacist and he researched and gave my what I believed to be a canned answer(scripted). I have talked with my Doctor and received similar answer almost eerily so..... My research over the internet and elsewhere has just led to more confusion. So here are the Questions.
do they really Know?
Who else is taking the Drug and Experiences?
What is the truth?
Is there a truth?
ARE We Alone(OOps!!Wrong board Scully)?

No, but seriously has anyone else gotten a good answer or
anything in reference to Effexor. one reason I'm asking is the information I've researched on it now says I may not be able to ever cease the use of it now because of the side effects of it in withdrawal.

Does the drug work for you and do you have adverse cardiac side effects? These things need to be taken into account. If it works for you and you don't have any adverse reactions, you should be able to stay on it. Remember, everyone is different.

Billy, the thread was one I started because my new family dr. put me on Effexor XR last Friday. By Sunday evening I knew I felt "odd" and by Monday morning my heart was racing to beat the band! I called my pharmacist after reading the phamplet in the box which said basically ... don't use if you have heart disease. My pharmacist researched GREATLY for me and we determined that Celexa (SP?) was the best and most affordable option for me. I called the doc ... he switched me ;)

I would talk to your doctor again. I would think that if you are not experiencing problems then you shouldn't have a thing to worry about. As with most medications, you would never just quit "cold turkey" but rather tapper off so the drugs can ease their way out of your system.

Hope that helps ;) Good luck!

Billy,

As others have stated it really depends on your body. Everyone is different and metabolizes drugs diffrently. That is one reason there are so many types of drugs in each class of medication. What works for some doesn't for others.
There are certain medications that heart patients shouldn't take. I can tell you that there are many heart patients on effexor. The cardiologists I use to work for prescribed it all the time and most patients took it without a problem. As with any drug, there are some who have problems and have to be switched to another drug in the same class of medication.

God Bless!
