Hello!
I have just returned from a very interesting conference and have been out of touch with the internet since Sunday (not something I am use to anymore). My hotel in Chicago had poor internet service so I could not get online there - and the plan had been that I was going to be away for 2 nights in Chicago at this meeting BUT I ended up spending a night in Kentucky - a night in Chicago an then one more night in Kentucky (almost Altanta but that is a story for a different day).
The conference was about health literacy and how to improve patient /physician communication with the ultimate goal of achieving better patient safety. I have come home with tons of ideas and you will see some of these tools on the web very soon!
I will be sending out some surverys very soon about how YOU like to be communicated with at various steps in living with HCM. for example is it better to learn in small bits or do you want everything at the time of diagnosis. Do you want or need to understand the 'medical terms' or would you rather just use english and 'normal' words. Is it helpful to have have pictures when learning or are words better? Would you like to read it, see it in picture form or hear it? The ultimate goal is to provide you and people like you with information that will improve the diagnosis process, coping and learning to live with a chronic disease.
Thank you to Elizabeth for the offer of the sleep over in Kentucky (how many of you knew that the Cinncinnati Airport was not in Ohio?? - - I didnt ;-) I nearly called you AGAIN - LATE last night to take you up on it but they found me a hotel and frankly I did not think you would appreciate a phone call at 11pm from stranded Lisa again. This weather has really made a mess of things! Thanks also to Tim for helping on stage one of the trip from...fill in the blank. The good news was that the conference was great - the trip itself...well lets just say life is a never ending adventure and I am glad to be along for the ride!
I look forward to all of your feed back on the surveys and please know your feed back is appreciated and NEEDED.
Thanks!
Lisa
