Tomorrow morning I go in for minor surgery. I have Basel Cell Carcinoma, which is skin cancer on my nose. I've been told that if your going to get cancer, this is the one to get. Although this type of cancer rarley spreads to other parts of the body, it can extend below the skin to the bone and cause considerable local damage.
If all goes well tomorrow, and I know it will, I go to another surgeon on Tuesday for reconstructive surgery on my nose. So on Tuesday evening I will be a much better looking man than I am now.
This is what I get for being a fair skinned redhead and spending my entire youth out in the sun without a hat or sunscreen on. I don't think they even had sunscreen when I was a kid.
So wish me luck and say a little prayer. I'll keep you posted.

Monday went well. Removing the cancer was a piece of cake. Now Tuesday was a little different. While doing the reconstructive surgery I woke up, which they told me could happen. I kept opening my eyes and the team kept talking to me and telling me everything that was going on. All of a sudden I started to get real hot. I kept telling them how hot I was getting. They took off all the sheets on me and the socks I was wearing and put cool wet towels on me. The Dr. kept working the whole time this was going on.
After the Dr. finished, he told me it was nothing to worry about. He said it was a nervous reaction to the fact I knew the procedure was about over. I cooled down soon after it was over. My heart never seemed to react to it any differently. My bp and my heart rate stayed good the whole time.
I'm home now with a nice swollen face. a cotton ball up my nose and a nose the size of Mt Rushmore. The worse part is the bandage is so big I can't get my glasses on and without them I'm as blind as a bat. No tv or reading for me for a week. Oh well it could always be a lot worse. I guess I'll just sit around eating fruit, drinking pop and listening to movies. I'm on a diet so no junk food ( lost 10 lbs so far).
Thanks for all the prayers. They really helped.

PS - I took a walk with the dog last night, he ran me into a tree limb (stupid mutt)

Oh my, your dog needs glasses too! I'm glad your experience is over and I hope you're nice and healed really soon. I'm sorry about the heat thing. I've felt that way before and I wondered if part of it was due to the anesthesia. Hmmm.

Tigger, tigger, shinning bright,
In the darkness of the night.
Is that a pillow on your face
Because your nose is out of place?
Fear not my friend, for one day soon,
In the light of a waxing moon
You’ll look and see the doctor’s there
Made you look extremely fair.
And with the weight loss you will see
The girls from Maine to Tennessee
Will all come rushing to your place
Just to gaze on your lovely face.
But don’t you worry, don’t you fret,
I’ll tell you something better yet,
Down every road, round every bend,
You will find yet another friend.
And I wouldn’t mind the crowds,
Burt
