I have been having lots of problems with my heart! I was in the hospital at the begining of the month. now my cardiologist is putting me in a MRI with contrast I guess thats what they tell me. I am so scared because I have never gone in a MRI machine. I am also tring to get put on SSI so I don't have to work as much to help my heart and I am still trying to get out on my own. this is just to much for me to handle alone and I have no one who understands my problems and no one to talk to sometimes. It is just way too difficult.

I wish you luck with the SSI. The MRI will tell the doctors a lot more about what's going on inside you. Don't worry, the MRI won't hurt. Let us know how it goes.

Thresea - Hang in there, I'm sorry it's so difficult for you right now. The MRI is more of a patience thing - it's not painful, just have to lie still for so long, and it's noisy. Please keep us posted - Best wishes - Linda

Teri,Welcome back,
Like everyone says we are all here for you . They can usually give you a medication prior to the MRI if your anxiety level is too high. Talk with your doctor regarding your fears and what would help you go through it more easily.

Linda is right. I had an MRI done prior to my myectomy and they found that the septal measurement was higher then what was thought. I really do not know if that helped out the surgeon, but the MRI also excluded a lot of other problems.
The biggest thing that you have to do is simply relax and follow the directions. They will want you take take deep breaths and hold it for a few seconds and then breathe normally. They should give you something to listen to in that you can not take anything with metal into the MRI machine. This means you can't take your own headphones with you.
As a humorous note (maybe) it is tight in the machine and of course you will have to itch something, but you can't. The only thing I could say was my butt itched badly and my nose itched a little and I was going to have a decesion to make when they pulled me out.

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about you being in the hospital. MRI's sound kinda scary if you've never had one before but dont be scared, its not bad. When I had mine they gave me something to put over my eyes and you can talk to the people that are working the machine the whole time! It wont be bad, trust me ;)
